hello vovchik I think we have some differences in our PI versions or OS because what works for you doesnt work for me and what works for me isnt working for you but the good news it does work somehow having the settings option is much better when we need it (thanks) but I could only get the text to display correctly by adding the the html5 header and your text in the body there are a lot of settings that will be useful! thanks Joe

Dear Joe, That version above, with all the settings, works perfectly on my Pi4 (Debian bullseye/sid) and on Mint 19. I can't get SET(settings,...) to work at all, although I initially tried that, as the settings var is supposed to be a GObject, so it should, in principle, work the way we expect. I get no error messsages at runtime, unless I watch some video and it complains (warning) about mesa ( or GL?). But it does work. I haven't been able to expand the WEB screen if the window gets expanded yet, and I think we might need a scrolled window for that (also for a horizontal scrollbar). Maybe you have an idea... With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe, I tried out a combo box for the preset urls (just as an experiment and to save some space). Seems OK to me. With kind regards, vovchik

Hello vovchik
I like it! and it works fine
thanks its good progress
there is a way to have an entry in a cobobox too and combine it all in one (if needed)
I have been testing ideas if you want easy widget adding the fixed container is fine the down side is we can't resize if you can live with that all is well and everything is self contained in one page
however if you have to resize we can resize with a box or grid but adding several widgets gets annoying quickly unless you use glade then we get another thing to convert again for bacon so I would say for a full feature app glade is the best choice and I have the gui done just some working on the bacon port now
I prefer to post code but just wanted you to know that I was looking at what you suggested about the resize and callbacks for the settings
P.S I saw that you were using arguments for the command line I was using drag n drop it works perfectly and no typing
Joe

Dear Joe, I am using the command line so that I can right click on a file and have it display in the browser. We are getting somewhere, bit by bit... With kind regards, vovchik UPDATED: Added a config file that contains entries for the combobox. If it doesn't exist, it will be created in GETENVIRON$("HOME") & "/.config/bassix-browser.cfg".

Dear Joe, I am now playing with the spinner (throbber), which is useful for slow pages. There is a function (webkit_web_view_get_estimated_load_progress (WEB_PAGE)), that returns a double(0.0 to 1.0), indicating the amount loaded. That should be used to control the spinner, but I am wondering how to do that. Any ideas? With kind regards, vovchik UPDATE: I think I have the spinner working here. Updated archive. UPDATED: I added an email (sento link) button. It doesn't do anything yet, except print the URL to the console. Archive updated.

Dear Joe, Thanks. I discovered this search engine recently. It loads quickly - no unnecessary graphics - and aggregates from various sources. And itis open source. searxMaybe that could be the default. With kind regards, vovchik

If you can see this post, then that means that the bassix browser 1.1 works. :°)

Dear Joe (and Rikky), Thanks. It works. Here is another one of my mods, incorporating most of Joe's last enhancements. With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe, We are getting somewhere rather fast now - bassix will soon handle most tasks, and it starts in a second, which is a pleasure. I also have to look at policies and properties more carefully. I am certain good things can be adjusted via those two rather easily. And we are learning. Unfortunatly, not many people have posted useful demos - most just show how to start a webview. Incidentally, I came across some web site that created an overlay if you were not registered. I did a right-click to do an "Inspect Element". I saw where they were drawing a black box with 80% opacity. I reduced the opacity to 0% and could read the article. With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe, Here is another version with a few upcoming enhancements. I made the buttons for Search, Reader View and Bookmarks Edit. Only Bookmarks edit works so far - it simply loads the default mime editor with the bookmarks file (which is fine and simple). The other functions will be a bit more complicated. And I thought that a click on the Bassix pic should probably bring up a pull-down Menu, like in Palemoon or Firefox. We could also include an MSGBOX for info there. What do you think? With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe,
Thanks. It's getting better all the time. Webkit is very powerful, and I very much like the idea of browser that loads in a second, even if it missing a few bells and whistles (which can be added as we begin to understand all the options).
With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe,
I just see you ahve posted a new mod and will download in a minute. But, while the thought is in my head, I'll post this idea now. What about moving the pulsating bar down to the new status bar? There will be space for both the address and the bar, I think. Just an idea. Now I'll download your latest and test. Thanks.
With kind regards, vovchik

Dear Joe, I don't know if it is better, but since you have tried both, just leave it where it is. We had the same idea. With kind regards, vovchik
