Hi ptitjoz,
The site is reachable though. Maybe because of the heavy Ddos attacks in Holland last days it could have been difficult to access the site.
Anyway, please try sgain, it works for me.

Hello Peter
I checked your older versions and the last working version that downloads the documentation (from the museum) for bacongui gtk was 3.5.4
it stared after 3.5.4 version 3.6 has the problem too but wasn't detected

Thanks guys, In both programs, the subroutine for downloading the documentation is identical (except for the widget handling stuff of course). Looking further, I noticed that the GTK version has the following option set at the top: OPTION SOCKET 1
This sets the network connection timeout value for sending data to 1 second. So if the connection is somewhat slow or sloppy, this might lead to timeouts where the GUI will conclude that the remote site is not available. As you may have guessed by now, the FLTK version has no such option set explicitly. And when not set, the timeout by default is 5 seconds, and this seems to work for the both of you. More scary is that BaCon itself also uses a timeout of 1 for sending data. I will remove this option from both the GTK GUI and BaCon itself, because apparently sometimes we need to be more patient than 1 second... Best regards Peter

Hello Peter
I tried your latest from fossil and still has the same problem
I can give you a clue though I forced it to download the docs line number 1547' Save documentation IF LEN(total$) >= 0 THEN
1.)I first delete the hidden .bacon folder to show I have no docs 2.)then I go to help-->documentation from the bacongtk gui
it gives the same popup error then when I close the popup error message the docs download and work correctly
I know thats a bad hack sorry but it reveals that there is still a problem but you get the docs working though
I dont have time to read through all your code or ( even plan to later) but this should help you find the problem and fix it quickly
willing to test anything you do
P.S I didnt recompile the bacon binary only the bacongtk gui using version 3.7

Hi ptitjoz,
Weird, it does not happen on my Linux Mint 64bit (this problem never has happened to me in the first place).
The timeout setting is gone and the download code is the same in both GUI's, so it should work the same - hope it is not some weird kind of coincidence. The FLTK version works for you?

Hello Peter it works perfectly with the FLTK version but does not work with the GTK version Otherwise I notice that the GTK version takes a lot longer to start than the FLTK but it may be normal? Best regards

Hello Peter
I found the problem and fixed it only one line needs to be fixed
line 1542 replace this line
total$ = Download_File$("http://www.basic-fer.org/documentation.html", TRUE)
with this new line
total$ = Download_File$("http://www.basic-converter.org/documentation.html", TRUE)
also delete the hidden .bacon folder to confirm it now works correctly
some typo that wasn't easy to catch
