thanks for the heads-up however, I am wondering if doing an update - upgrade will upgrade my system to the newest aps and system files, probably not.

Hi James Had to think for a while , I have a tendency to avoid bated questions . Well, deskstops / window managers and distro's Most of these are a matter of choice , free to down load and free to try. If One likes what they have , then so be it. one question before I go. frome where you sit. have U tried these demo's to see what the Raspi can do A link to Raspberry Pi Resources.. www.raspberrypi.org/resources/look for DEMO PROGRAMS near the bottom of the page + if can run the demo's then see how the teapot is wraped with full motion video Suppose It may reveal a Gap in Computer Literacy at the end user level , missing for possibly a Generation. Alex, This is the only experience I had with raspian. www.bcxbasic.com/smf/index.php?topic=918.0I now have a new Translator that only needs glib so I thought I might give raspbian another try. I do like Ubuntu MATE though as it is the distro I run on one of my machines. James

Hi James
looking at
On Raspian , wx widget are 2*
libwxgtk2.8-0 libwxgtk2.8-dev
other than that ,
if new converter base = C++ , everything should be fine , here assuming U done your homework + it works in Ubuntu . 'see last line'
If problem with getting the VC/ demos up and working I posted a solution on the Bacon/Raspi trouble shooting thread The raspberry pi sdc canvas main lib also contains the fix for both GCC Bacon wise and for C++ and specific to C++.
All assuming the new converter works on Raspi Ubuntu Mate,
ADDED::
not sure but feel sure U know how to interface directly with gtk but posting this anyway. also since I as meaning me , hates gtkmm , suppose they meant something by the mm = - - and not ++.
if need access to gtk
EG:
extern "C" {
extern long gtk_window_new(int) ; extern long g_signal_connect_data (long, const char *,void*,long,long,int) ; }
To get 'g_signal_connect_data' working macro it like so or what ever name u want for it.
#define Callback(arg1,arg2,arg3) g_signal_connect_data(arg1,arg2,(void*)arg3,0,0,0)
