What's up with BaCon these days? There hasn't been a post to this forum in a month. Do you have anything new to report Peter? BCX seems to be stealing the wind from your sails.

Well, that is not so important ...I have never considered BaCon to be a competitor of BCX. Furthermore the differences between the two have been pointed out on my site. Looking at some code of James one wonders if this is Basic or C++; this is an issue he mentions himself too. As you remember I created BaCon for my personal needs, and as I am a nostalgic person, it has a BASIC syntax. Anyway a lot is happening, especially around error reporting. In the next release (build 15) BaCon will be able to point out the exact spot of an error in the original BaCon source code. Really a major step forward! Furthermore some old limitations have been removed which allows BaCon to implement more powerfull programs with less sourcecode. Regards Peter

I were on long vacation and for other reasons too, i havent been able to open any editor for 2 months. Anyway, now my interests to code with BaCon has increased in huge measures so you can be sure that lot's of stupid questions will appear in forum at near future

Great, welcome back! BTW someone told me that there are no stupid questions.... not asking questions, that is really stupid! Regards! I bet I can ask some stupid questions! I've had plenty of practice. ;D Maybe since work has started to slow down some, I can get back to my BaCON project. I have been very busy with a little BCX windows project too. I see there's a lot of updates to BaCON and the examples too since I last checked in here. Thanks Peter! Doyle

It is also good to remember that there is so many programming languages that for sure, 99% of their forums are pretty quiet ones. It is also summer, which atleast in europe is darn quiet time.
Im not sure does BaCon need dedicated forum, maybe co-operating with some general basic programming site (such as bp.org) might serve this dialect better.
Any possibilities to co-operate with BCX devs. btw? BCX is for windows users, BaCon is for linux users, so there is no major competition, but you could do some co-operating?

There is a Linux version of BCX which can be found on their forum. As mentioned on several places, there are some differences between the two, which mainly come down to the need for a g++ compiler (BCX) vs. a plain C compiler (BaCon) and network support (lacks in BCX). On the other hand BCX has some object-oriented features which are not in BaCon. Anyway, I don't want to join their forum because I'ld rather stay independent... Regards Peter

I have to believe this is why you abandoned ScriptBasic for BaCon. Rolling your own can be fun as well.
Glad to see progress with BaCon. The associative array feature is a nice addition and something I use all the time in ScriptBasic.

No, I have left ScriptBasic for a lot of reasons which we have discussed before (and I am not going to repeat that discussion here). You can also re-read the interview to see why.
It's just for the forum that I like to keep things in my own hands.

I'm happy BaCon didn't stray to far from traditional Basic. It was obvious when I was converting the BaCon version of BaCon to ScriptBasic that syntax wasn't a issue.
I'm overjoyed you remain active in the open source community creating useful software that addresses a broad spectrum of users. (Gtk-Server for example)
