Can anyone tell me what this error message is?
File '/usr/bin/ld'
Line 1: ELFc\Uffffffff\Uffffffff\Uffffffff/
Cause: syntax error
I get it after bacongui (why not baconide?) converts and then tries to compile my .bac file.
The Ufffffff stuff looks like wing-ding box's.
Thanks,
John

Looks to me that your source file was saved in some 2byte UTF format?
BaCon (and most C compilers) only support ASCII 0-127 values for text.

Hey John The way you ask the question and give information is very important in the type of reply you get How to post a general users error report It would be better for you to say I compiled this app here is all the code from the command line that displayed in the terminal I don't understand what the error is BTW I am using bacon version 2.4 and I compiled this on OSX or linux mint 15 or ..... one example given I did this in a terminal ./bacon bacongui and here is all output from the terminal I pasted here in pastebin pastebin.com/here is the link (I dont want to use the forum to paste large amounts of error code) pastebin.com/SzYbYEAaI hope this will be helpful info to debug what happened I saved the *.log file also if you want it I will post it at paste bin too Thanks xxx

Dear Joe and John,
I think Peter was right in his diagnosis, but he did not have much to go on (good advice from Joe). If you inadvertently use the wrong encoding, you might just get what John got on his screen on OSX. I remember getting something like that when I was just experimenting a bit with BaCon on a Mac Mini and used the wrong editor for my source. I subsequently had good luck with Smultron (native Mac) and Geany, which I compiled for Mac under X11, having fist installed GTK bin and dev libs from Mac Ports.
With kind regards, vovchik

Sorry guys, I was in a hurry when I posted that. I thought that Peter would have ran across this before.
I was using Lubuntu and I used the default settings in bacongui. I'm using BaCon stable version.
Me asking "what?" was because I have no idea what Peter was saying about compilers, sorry Peter.
I'll try and compile it again and see what happens.
Thanks all, John

This is a guess, but I think what you may be looking at is the beginning of the ELF header for a binary/executable file. A hint is what is listed next to "File".
In other words, you may have inadvertently been trying to translate/compile a binary file instead of a Bacon source code file.
A.
