Thanks for the feedback guys. Geany seems like a powerful editor, definitely worth checking out. It makes sense to use just one editor if it supports multiple languages; I do some programming in Javascript/HTML for which I'm using Bluefish, but if I can use Geany for that and BaCon too, it would be handy.

What I use BaCon gui for is for testing functions etc. in the shell. What about creating baconshell.bac file and keeping it open in a separate tab in Geany? All you need to do is to set action for one of the buttons for bacon [your options] %f; ./%e. Now you can type anything in that tab and simply click chosen button to sea a result in a bottom panel. Geany saves any changes to the file automatically when compile/make buttons are clicked, so you don't have to use save button after making changes to the code. Isn't that the way the shell in Bacongui works?

The nice thing about the shell in bacongui is it behaves like an interpreter, and in fact you don't even have to create a file, you just edit and run like the interactive shell in Python. I suppose you could set up Geany for something similar as you've suggested, but wouldn't you still have to create/name a file? and also you'd be left with a folder littered with binaries, unless there's a way of deleting them from Geany after the program has run.

The nice thing about the shell in bacongui is it behaves like an interpreter, and in fact you don't even have to create a file... In Geany you also doesn't have to create a file. Well, you need to create it once and keep it open in a separate tab. Geany remembers what tab were opened when the program was closed, so when you run the editor next time the file will be open in a separate tab (the tab will be in fact a shell). You can switch to that tab, type whatever you want and convert, compile, run and get an output with one click. Then you can switch to the tab with your project and continue working on it. This way you will have only one additional executable (on my computer it's called baconshell).

Hi Tomaaz Thank you for the Geany configuration files. Your configuration files work just fine. It is nice not to have to enter Bash commands to compile and run my programs.
Since you obviously have very good knowledge on how the Geany configuration files work. Could you please do me favor.
I do not like the light color of quoted strings. It is very hard for me to read.
This has nothing to do with your configuration files. This light color was a problem before I installed your configuration files.
What I would like is a darker color for these quoted string lines.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time in reading this post. John

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. A new configuration file is attached. But if you don't like the color I've chosen, it's very easy to change it. Just edit this value in the filetypes.Bacon.conf file: Remember to reload Geany configuration after replacing the file or making any changes to it. Hope it helps. Hi Tomaaz Thank you! Thank you! I can now write BaCon programs without going blind.
The color you chose is just fine. It is a lot better than very weak pink. There was not much difference between the quoted strings and the white background. It was almost white on white.
Again Thank you for your very helpful and timely response.

Updated to BaCon 3.1 and HUG 1.00. It also supports canvas.bac and my simple turtle library. Geany_files.zip (3.05 KB) EDIT I recommend to change Geany build commands and use compile button for running already compiled programs and run button for compiling and then running new programs (in my case it looks like this: bacon -z -d "tmp" %f; tmp/%e). The reason for that is that it's not possible to answer question about old temporary files when using compile button.
